Bawdsey Ferry Handcrafted Notebook
· 62 pages x 140gsm white cartridge paper
· Dimensions 105mm x 145mm
A beautiful hand sewn and bound notebook made exclusively for Bawdsey Radar Trust by Janet Watson, printer and book binder of Hollesley, Suffolk.
The specially commissioned design alludes to the foot ferry which linked RAF Bawdsey to Felixstowe. The image is transferred onto a lino block, which is then cut and printed by hand. After inking, the lino is pressed onto calico in a large Victorian Platen press. Headbands and a ribbon page marker are added and the book blocks are sewn by hand and pressed in a Nipping press.
The spine is glued and reinforced with mull, then the book board is attached to the covers and pressed until dry.
The books can be used for sketching, notes, journals etc and the paper will take water colour and pen.
The dyes used on the image have been specially selected to reflect the Bawdsey Radar Trust colours.
This artisanal book makes a beautiful keepsake and its purchase supports the work of the Trust.
